ACT for Dolphins

Press Events

On July 19th, 2006 a press conference was held at the National Press Club in Washington, DC in which several prominent scientists and the President of the World Association for Zoos and Aquariums called for an immediate end to the brutally inhumane treatment and slaughter of dolphins and other small whales in the dolphin drive hunts in Taiji, Japan.  The scientists described the drive hunts and presented scientific data for ending the yearly slaughter. They presented  the ethical and scientific concerns about the treatment, welfare and conservation of dolphins in the drive hunts. At the press conference a Scientist Statement Against the Japanese Drive Fisheries was launched with over 200 signatures from leading marine mammal biologists, veterinarians, conservationists, and ecologists from around the world in a united voice to end this cruel and arcane practice.
