Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rethink.

The three Rs were probably your introduction to the environmental movement back in 1st grade, and for a good reason. They are easy to remember and have a big impact on our earth and ocean. Sometimes along the way though we forget the importance of things we learned at such a young age.

seas the day by clearing the clutter. Think about how much "stuff" you have that can be recycled or donated to charity. With holiday season approaching, it's a good opportunity to rethink what is most important, how you can become much happier with fewer things in your life, and help others at the same time. And if you have not yet taken The Seven Seas Pledge, please pledge to protect the ocean today!

seas the day by recycling to the max! Depending on where you live your recycling opportunities will vary so it's important to determine what you can recycle and what you cannot. Take five minutes online to see what type of recycling program is going on in your area. Also, make a habit of watching for those recycling numbers or symbols found mostly on the bottom of your containers. Local recycling centers may or may not take certain products and recycling numbers but with a little investigation you can find other ways to recycle or find an example through other businesses in your area like Whole Foods or Staples.

seas the day by getting things started on a larger scale. It's quite likely that your community is not recycling all that it could and if you help rally a group of people, you can make some big changes. Maybe your office/business, local school, or place of worship is not yet recycling but with a leader like you it's easy to get a recycling program started. Or you could start a neighborhood composting program.

And remember, with holiday season upon us, social events are a good opportunity to lead by example. It may be more convenient to just throw away disposable cups, plates, and utensils after a party, but think of the garbage you will save by using reusable materials as well as the years these items take to break down in the landfill, not to mention the resulting polluted runoff or pollution produced in making an event "disposable." Here are some ideas on how to throw a green party.
