by clearing the clutter. Think about how much "stuff" you have that can be recycled or donated to charity. With holiday season approaching, it's a good opportunity to rethink what is most important, how you can become much happier with fewer things in your life, and help others at the same time. Take five minutes online to see what type of recycling program is going on in your area. Also, make a habit of watching for those recycling numbers or symbols found mostly on the bottom of your containers. Maybe your office/business, local school, or place of worship is not yet recycling but with a leader like you it's easy to get a recycling program started. Or you could start a neighborhood composting program.
And remember, with holiday season upon us, social events are a good opportunity to lead by example. It may be more convenient to just throw away disposable cups, plates, and utensils after a party, but think of the garbage you will save by using reusable materials as well as the years these items take to break down in the landfill, not to mention the resulting polluted runoff or pollution produced in making an event "disposable." Here are some ideas on how to throw a green party.
