Save energy to save our seas

If we can approach the energy issue from both ends by creating and using energy wisely, our ocean planet — and future generations — will thank us.

Say the word "energy" to 100 people and you will likely get 100 different responses. Energy is quite literally what makes everything in this universe happen. We can too easily lose sight of the finite aspects and harmful side effects of energy. It takes a lot to generate the amount of power that human society uses and most of the time we create our energy unsustainably and without considering the impacts on the seventh generation. You can help:

seas the day by flipping the switch. It's so easy to forget but yet so easy to do. When you walk out of a room turn off the lights, fan, computer monitor, or anything that is using energy. With your computer, you can save a lot of energy and money with a few simple steps.

seas the day by going Energy Star. If you are in the market for a new appliance or even just a light bulb, buying Energy Star certified products is a good way to show your blue-green side. Today, energy efficient appliances are doing the same job but with substantially less energy than their older counterparts. The choices we make, like choosing a laptop over a desktop, or saying no to the electric can opener, can all add up to one great big step towards saving a lot of energy, saving money, and saving our ocean planet.

seas the day by going with green energy. Renewable energies such as solar and wind power are becoming more and more popular sources of clean energy for homes and businesses. Find out about some options for incentives and policies that promote renewable energy in your area and then work to pursue it for your home or business. By educating yourself on green energy options, you can become more engaged in the community, state, and nationwide discussions on where we get our energy from and help create a cleaner, healthier community, and help our ocean!
